Professor Sivasubramaniam Pathmanathan (b. 1940) is one of Sri Lanka’s most distinguished historians, academics, and epigraphists. Renowned for his expertise in South Asian history, Tamil culture, and Hindu traditions, he currently serves as the Chancellor of the University of Jaffna. Over a career spanning several decades, Professor Pathmanathan has held prominent academic chairs, including Professor Emeritus in History at the University of Peredeniya. He has won numerous prestigious accolades, such as the Sahitya Mandala Award and the Tamil Nadu State Government Award, for his monumental contributions to Sri Lankan archaeology, national heritage, and historical research.
